Presidency of the Church in Europe, September 1842–February 1843

When the majority of the apostles returned to , Illinois, from their European mission in April 1841, remained in and was appointed the mission’s presiding authority, with and as his counselors. Pratt served in that capacity until shortly before his departure for Nauvoo in October 1842. In the 10 October 1842 issue of the Latter-day Saints’ Millennial Star, Pratt announced that would be the new president of the church in Europe, with Snow and as his counselors. On 16 January 1843, Snow set sail with a company of Saints from for , leaving the other counselor position vacant.
