began working as a scribe for JS in November 1843, but he likely did not begin working on JS’s multivolume manuscript history with until December 1844. Eventually Bullock wrote nearly seven hundred pages of the JS history, first in , Illinois, and then in Salt Lake City. He wrote the historical notes on this loose document while working on the JS history in Nauvoo. The document was inserted into Revelation Book 2 at an unknown time, thereby becoming associated with the manuscript book, though not physically part of it. The notes are similar to historical notes written by Willard Richards and on three blank leaves at the back of Revelation Book 2, but the Bullock notes are included here as an appendix, not as part of the manuscript book, because they are not written on leaves of the book itself.

A note on one side of the document reads “these pages not yet recorded”. Six separate manuscript documents are then listed with specific page numbers and dates, presumably identifying certain information that had not been recorded in the history. The purpose of the opposite side of the document is less certain. Dates of 1838 and 1839 appear alongside references to documents and events. The tear along the top and side cuts off some text, perhaps indicating that preserving text on this side was not important.

may have created this document over an extended period of time to facilitate incorporating information into the JS history as it was being written. However, the document’s physical characteristics, including the handwriting, suggest that Bullock wrote it as part of a single process, analyzing portions of the history that had already been written. Because dates on the document do not extend past 1839, Bullock likely created it after he finished the 1839 portion of the history on 15 March 1845 but before he wrote much more of the history. By the time the church records, including the JS history, were boxed up in early 1846 to be shipped west, Bullock had written the history through 1 March 1843.
