An ordinance to amend an ordinance entitled an ordinance to organiseing the “Nauvoo Legion<, passed Feb.y. 3rd 1841—>
Sec. 1st. Be it & it is hereby ordained by the city Council of the city of That the Leut. Genl. of the shall not be required to act as the president of any court martial or of the also that he may add to his staff a chief chaplain with the rank of Col.
Sec. 2nd. That officers may be elected without being nominated by the court martial, & that all vacancies shall be filled by lawful elections & not by granting Brevet commissions.
Sec. 3rd. That the Genl. officers may appoint such officers in their respective staffs as may be in comformity with the rules and regulations of the united states army.
Sec. 4th. That so much of <the> 3rd. Sec. of the ordinance organising the aproved Feb. 3rd. ’41 as authorises the Major Genl. to act as secretary of the court martial, & & adjutant & Inspector General. is hereby repealed.
Sec. 5th. This ordinance shall take effect & be in force from & after its passage, notwithstanding any thing to the contrary heretofore enacted.
