Know all men by these presents that I principal, and Surety, both of the City of (Illinois) are held, and by these presents, firmly bound unto the said city of in the penal sum of ONE thousand dollars, for the payment of which well and truely to be made— we bind ourselves our heirs and assigns firmly by these presents
The condition of the above obligation is such that if the said shall truely and faithfully perform the duties of Assessor and Collector in the fourth ward in the said City of for the Year one thousand Eight hundred and forty three, and make due returns of the same, then this obligation is to [be?] null and void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue
In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals at aforesaid this 20th day of November AD 1843—
