Know all men by these presents that I Joseph Smith Sole Trustee in Trust for the of the County of and State of am held and firmly bound unto William Reeves, , Joseph Griffiths Thomas Hammonds, William Mosley, Robert Burton, Samuel Pain, Christopher Layton, and John Mariott all of the & aforesaid in the penal sum of one thousand dollars for the payment of which well and truly to be made I hereby bind myself my successors in office and assigns firmly by these presents.
The condition of the above obligation is such that Whereas the said Joseph Smith Sole Trustee in Trust &c hath this day sold unto the aforesaid parties of the second part one hundred and ten acres on the East part of the South East quarter of Section number twenty five in Township number seven North of Range number eight West of the fourth principal Meridian, and receive in payment for said land the sum of four hundred & twenty one 8/100 dollars the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, Also a note of hand bearing even date herewith for the sum of one hundred & twenty eight 92/100 dollars, payable on or before the seventeenth day of April A. D. 1844.
Now if the said parties of the second part shall well and truly pay the amount of the aforesaid note together with such interest as may accrue thereon according to the tenor and effect thereof when due I the said Joseph Smith Trustee in Trust &c hereby bind myself my successors in office and assigns to make unto the aforesaid parties of the second part a good and sufficient Warrantee Deed to the land aforesaid and then this bond shall become null and void otherwise to remain in full force & virtue
Given under my hand and seal the day and year aforesaid.

TEXT: Sometime after this bond was inscribed, an unidentified scribe struck through William Reeves’s name and inserted “Thomas Hamonds” between this line and the next. Trustee Land Book B includes William Reeves’s initial payment along with payments from the other people listed in the bond. It also includes the spelling of Thomas Hammonds as originally written on the bond. (Trustee Land Book B, 17.)

No date for the bond is given in the text. William Clayton recorded in Trustee Land Book B that initial payment of $421.08 was made on this bond on 17 April 1843, the amount given in the text for the amount already paid. (Trustee Land Book B, 17.)
