At a meeting of the high priests quorum the next day, Miller explained, “The Legislature have decreed that they must drive all the inhabitants out of Nauvoo, for this purpose they have repealed all the charters, and every thing that they can repeal—except the air and the water, and they have left us a nation to ourselves.” (Nauvoo High Priests Quorum, Record, 2 Mar. 1845.)
