He goes in for sustaining his brethren. He never asks a man that owes him for any thing, he dont know who does owe him. The is a church matter, it is not his, and if they say he must pay five thousand dollars a year for the rent of it, he will do it. They will want about one thousand dollars for type and paper to carry on what we want to. If you go to any other place to get such a job as the History of the church done you will have to pay a certain amount down and the balance in instalments, and the question is why cant we have the same privileges as other folks.

    Taylor referred to the multivolume history of JS and the church begun in 1838. This history had been serialized in the Times and Seasons since 1842 as the “History of Joseph Smith,” and in April 1845 plans were made to publish the history in book form. On 1 April, Brigham Young and other members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles began “correcting history for Printing.” Two days later, Charles W. Wandell, a clerk in the Historian’s Office, “commenced writing for the press.” On 10 April the Twelve resolved that they wanted to print the history “as soon as possible.” Despite these efforts, plans to publish the history in book form in Nauvoo were ultimately abandoned.
