Footnotes
See Hebrews 7:1–2, 4, 15–16.
See Revelation, 22–23 Sept. 1832 [D&C 84:23–25].
See Genesis 22:1–14.
See Hebrews 7:1–2. In the Old Testament, Melchizedek fulfilled the offices of both priest and king, and David was both a king and a prophet, but according to the New Testament, only Christ could fulfill all three roles. JS used similar prophet, king, and priest terminology based on Hebrews 7 in a 23 July 1843 discourse. (See Council of Fifty, “Record,” 11 Apr. 1844; Hebrews 7; and Discourse, 23 July 1843.)
On 16 July 1843, JS discussed eternal sealings and the “multiplication of Lives.” (Discourse, 16 July 1843.)
