Know all men by these presents that we Ralph Partington and Ann [Partington] his wife of the City of , of the first part; and and his wife of the same place of the second part, do agree and covenant as follows; First, we, the party of the first part, do give, bequeath, and put into the care, charge, and protection of the second party, our daughter Ellen Partington, aged about Ten years; and the said party of the second part receives the said Ellen on this condition, that she is adopted as his child, and to be brought up by him as one of his own children; wherefore the said party of the first part relinquishes from henceforth all right to govern, direct, or provide for said child, granting all rights mercies, benifits, and instructions, for her benifit and good, unto the said party of the first part, till she is of age according to law, and forever. In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals at aforesaid, this 23rd. day of March 1844

This Indenture, made and entered into, this sixteenth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty four, between and his wife, of the county of , and State of , of the one part, and Richard Pettit, of the county of and aforesaid, of the other part, Witnesseth, that the said and his wife, for and in consideration of the sum of ninety five dollars, to them in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, do hereby grant, bargain, sell, convey and confirm unto the said Richard Pettit his heirs and assigns forever, all that tract or parcel of land, situate and being in the county of , in the State of , viz: it being a part of Lot numbered three in Block numbered one hundred and twenty four of the City of , commencing seventy six feet from the South East corner of said Lot running thence West twenty three feet, thence North one hundred and five feet nine inches, thence East twenty three feet, thence South One hundred and five feet nine inches to the place of beginning. Together with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging, or in any wise appertaining. To have and to hold the above described premises unto the said Richard Pettit his heirs and assigns forever.
