John Alley & wife [Mercy Alley] to Lot No 2 Block No 9 ’s Addition to
This Indenture made and entered into this tenth day of July AD one thousand eight hundred and forty three between John Alley and Mercy his wife of the County of and State of of the one part and Witnesseth that the said John Alley and Mercy his wife for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars to them in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged do hereby grant, bargain, sell convey and confirm unto the said his heirs and assigns forever— One half of that tract of land situated and being in the county of and State of Viz:—
Lot No two (2) in block No nine (9) of s first Addition to the city of . Together with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining. Meaning to convey the Eastern half from a line running through the middle from South to North To have and to Hold the above described premises unto the said his heirs and assigns forever. And the said John Alley and Mercy his wife their heirs and assigns the aforesaid premises unto the said his heirs and assigns against the claim or claims of all and every person whomsoever, do and will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In Testimony Whereof the said John Alley and Mercy his wife of the first part have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and the year above written

Before me an acting Justice of the Peace in and for said personally appeared John Alley and Mercy his wife and acknowledged the signing and sealing of the within instrument to be their act for the uses and purposes therein expressed And the said Mercy upon separate examination by me declared that she did sign seal and deliver the same for the uses and purposes therein mentioned and expressed That she forever relinquishes all right of dower to the same and that she did the same of her own free will without coercion from her husband and that she is still satisfied therewith
