thence North along Fulmer Street eight and a half Rods, thence East (5) five rods fourteen feet and nine inches, thence South to the centre of Sidney street, thence West five rods fourteen feet nine inches, to the place of beginning, it being in Lot twenty eight in Block six in s first addition to the city of . Together with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging, or in any wise appertaining. To have and to hold the above des-cribed premises unto the said his heirs and assigns forever, And the said Benjamin R. Bentley and Rhoda A. his wife, their heirs and assigns, the aforesaid premises, unto the said his heirs and assigns, against the claim or claims of all and every person whomsoever, do and will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In testimony whereof, the said Benjamin R. Bentley and Rhoda A. his wife of the first part, have hereunto set their hands and seals, the day and year first above written.

State of Illinois, , sct. I a Justice of the Peace, in and for the said , do certify that Benjamin R. Bentley and Rhoda A. his wife, whose signatures appear to the foregoing Deed, and who are personally known to me to be the persons described in, and who executed the same, did severally acknowledge that they had executed the said conveyance, for the uses and purposes therein mentioned. And the said Rhoda A. Bentley having been by me made acquainted with the contents of the said Deed, and examined separate and apart from her said husband, acknowledged that she had executed the same, and relinquished her dower to the premises therein conveyed, voluntarily, freely, and without compulsion of her said husband. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this eighth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty-four

Know all men by these presents, that I of the County of and State of , have this day for and in consideration of the sum of twenty dollars in hand paid by of the and aforesaid bargained and sold unto the said a certain lot or peice of land lying and situated in s addition to in said and last mentioned as will more fully appear by refference to the plat of said addition being part of lot No 72 in block No 2 in said addition to the town of , To wit, begining on the East line of said block No 2 eight Rods south of the center of Young street, to a stake, thence South about Sixteen Rods to a Stake on Knight Street, thence West about four rods to a stake, thence North about sixteen Rods to a stake, thence East about four Rods to the place of begining, be the same more or less, To have and to hold the above des-cribed lot or peice of land with all and singular the apertinances there unto belonging, to her the said her heirs and assigns forever, and the said for himself his heirs and assigns administrators and executors do warrant and forever defend the title of the lot or piece of land against every person or persons claiming by through or under him in any manner [p. 71]
