At the 30 January 1843 Nauvoo City Council meeting, the council ordered that various city officers, including William Law, be paid for their services. Notations indicate that certificates were made out to each of them. Law stipulated that his payment should go towards a poor fund. This transaction was not recorded in the Nauvoo City Treasury Ledger. (Nauvoo City Council Rough Minute Book, Nov. 1842–Jan. 1844, 6.)
