Partial signature of JS.

In his 9 February 1843 letter to Richard M. Young, JS indicated that Elias Higbee’s signature would be on the “obligations.” Because the signatures were removed when the notes were canceled, it is unknown if Higbee signed them. It is also possible that Edward Hunter signed the notes. (Letter to Richard M. Young, 9 Feb. 1843.)

“Cancelled” notation written diagonally over text of note in handwriting probably of James Whitehead.
