Biography
14 Oct. 1813–31 Oct. 1882. Farmer, sheriff. Born in Wilmington, Windham Co., Vermont. Son of Silas Axtell and Deborah Perry. Moved to Chautauque Co., New York, ca. 1826. Moved to Perry, Geauga Co., Ohio, ca. 1831. Served as deputy sheriff, 1838, in Geauga Co. Married first Mary Jane Cram (Crum), ca. 31 Aug. 1841, in Perry. Wife died, 2 Dec. 1854. Served as sheriff in Lake Co., Ohio, 1857–1861. Married second Harriet Carter, 19 Oct. 1858, in Painesville, Lake Co. Moved to Painesville, by 1860. Moved back to Perry, by 1874. Died in Perry.
