Biography

9 Dec. 1807–10 Aug. 1861. Sheriff, colonel, farmer, politician. Born in Franklin Co., Kentucky. Son of Benjamin Brown and Elizabeth (Betsy) Watkins. Married first Winifred Oliver. Served as sheriff of Ray Co., Missouri, 1838–1842, 1850–1854; assembled jury in case of State of Missouri v. Pratt et al. for Murder, 1839; conveyed Parley P. Pratt from Ray Co. jail to Boone Co., Missouri, jail. Married second Mary Ann White, 15 Dec. 1845. Served as state senator, 1854–1861. Served in Missouri State Guard. Died in Battle of Wilson’s Creek, near Springfield, Greene Co., Missouri.
