Biography
Apr. 1823–21 Sept. 1905. Teacher, seamstress, housekeeper. Born in Pennsylvania. Daughter of Benjamin Wasson and Elizabeth Hale. Moved to Harpursville, Broome Co., New York, by 1836; to Farmington, Fulton Co., Illinois, early Oct. 1836; and to Amboy, Ogle Co., Illinois, Dec. 1837. Taught at first schoolhouse built in Amboy, 1839. Lived in Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, 1843. Married to William Backenstos by JS, 3 Oct. 1843, in Nauvoo. Returned to Amboy, by 1850. Moved to Iowa City, Johnson Co., Iowa, by 1860; to Denver, by 1883; and to Pueblo, Pueblo Co., Colorado, by 1899. Died in Pueblo. Buried in Iowa City.
