Biography
24 Mar. 1792–28 Feb. 1869. Soldier, court and county clerk, merchant, postmaster, judge, newspaper publisher, coroner. Born at Hillsborough, Hillsborough Co., New Hampshire. Son of Daniel McNeil and Martha Parker. Served in War of 1812. Married first Lucinda Miller, 13 July 1815. Wife died, 20 July 1817. Moved to Wabash Co., Illinois, 1819. Married second Elizabeth Bell Brown, 13 June 1821, in Gibson Co., Indiana. Moved to Fulton Co., Illinois, 1824. Moved to Monmouth, Warren Co., Illinois, early 1830. Appointed as first postmaster of Monmouth. Served as county clerk, 1830–1838; as clerk of circuit court, 1830–1841; as recorder, 1830–1843; and as probate judge, 1831–1837. Married third Sarah Shomaker, 17 Mar. 1851, in Knox Co., Illinois. Moved to DeWitt, Clinton Co., Iowa, by 1854. Served as Worshipful Master of DeWitt Masonic lodge, 1858. Served as coroner in DeWitt, 1868–1869. Died in DeWitt.
