Lawrence, James
Biography
Ca. 1828–13 Oct. 1891. Miner, grocer. Born in Pickering, York Co. (later in Ontario), Upper Canada. Son of Edward Lawrence and Margaret Major. Immigrated to Lima, Adams Co., Illinois, by Feb. 1839. Father died, between 5 Nov. and 23 Dec. 1839. JS became legal guardian, 4 Jan. 1841. Migrated to Salt Lake Valley with Edward Hunter pioneer company, arriving 13 Oct. 1850. Moved to Park City, Summit Co., Utah Territory, 1879. Operated mercantile store in Park City, 1882–1889. Died in Park City.
