Biography
20 Feb. 1808–2 Apr. 1886. Brick mason, hotel keeper. Born in Buxton, York Co., District of Maine. Son of Jacob Townsend and Abigail Elden. Married Susan Davis, 11 Apr. 1828, in Buxton. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Aug. 1833. Preached with Wilford Woodruff at Bangor, Penobscot Co., Maine, 1838. Ordained a seventy, Feb. 1844. Migrated to Salt Lake Valley; arrived 13 Aug. 1852. Proprietor of Salt Lake House, 1854. Served mission to England, 1864. Proprietor of Townsend House hotel, in Salt Lake City. Died in Salt Lake City.
