Biography

Ca. 1810–ca. 1869. Minister, newspaper editor, printer. Born in Williamson, Wayne Co., New York. Minister of First Baptist Church of Eaton, in Morrisville, Madison Co., New York. Worked as printer in office where first edition of Book of Mormon was printed and claimed to have worked on book’s production. Moved to Fabius, Onondaga Co., New York, by 1840; to Groton, New London Co., Connecticut, by 1842; and to Syracuse, Onondaga Co., by Jan. 1847. Briefly served as minister for Congregationalist church. Moved to Albany and became minister of Baptist church. Deputy clerk of New York Senate, by Apr. 1849. Married Frances F. Ferris, ca. Apr. 1849, in Albany. Moved to Vincent, Chester Co., Pennsylvania, where he was minister of Baptist church for three years. Moved to Brooklyn, Kings Co., New York, by Aug. 1854. Editor of Brooklyn Eagle. Editor of Brooklyn Daily Freeman, 1854. Murdered youngest child, 2 Aug. 1854, in Brooklyn. Sent to New York State Lunatic Asylum at Utica, Oneida Co., New York, in Feb. 1855, from which he escaped after five months. Moved to Fort Wayne, Allen Co., Indiana. Died in Toledo, Lucas Co., Ohio.
