Biography
17 Sept. 1788–12 June 1868. Farmer, stonemason, justice of the peace. Born in Goshen, Chester Co., Pennsylvania. Son of Elisha Hoopes and Mary Hayworth. Married Rebecca Watts, 1812. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 11 Feb. 1836. Moved to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, by 1842. Defendant in State of Illinois v. J. Hoopes and L. Hoopes and State of Illinois v. J. Hoopes and L. Hoopes on Habeas Corpus, Apr. 1843, in Hancock Co. Moved to Utah Co., Utah Territory, by 1850. Served as justice of the peace in Utah Co., 1851–1852. Died in Weston, Oneida Co., Idaho Territory.
