Haswell, Nathan Baldwin
Biography
20 Jan. 1786–6 June 1855. Government worker. Born in Bennington, Bennington Co., Vermont. Son of Anthony Haswell and Lydia Baldwin. Studied law, 1800–1804, in Bennington. Attended University of Vermont, ca. 1804, at Burlington, Chittenden Co., Vermont. Customs inspector, 1805–1809, at Burlington. Married Harriet Plimpton, 20 Sept. 1810, in Sturbridge, Worcester Co., Massachusetts. Superintendent of inventory of public property, ca. 1812–1813, at Burlington. At different times, served as clerk of county court, as notary public, and as master in chancery, 1818–1836, in Chittenden Co. Represented Burlington in state legislature, 1836–1837. Died in Quincy, Adams Co., Illinois. Buried in Burlington.
