Field, Roswell Martin

Biography

22 Feb. 1807–12 July 1869. Attorney, politician. Born in Newfane, Windham Co., Vermont. Son of Martin Field and Esther Smith Kellogg. Graduated from Middlebury College, 1822, in Middlebury, Addison Co., Vermont. State attorney for Windham Co., 1831–1836. Served in Vermont House of Representatives, 1835–1836. Moved to St. Louis, 1839. Married Frances Maria Reed, 31 May 1848, in St. Louis. One of several plaintiff’s attorneys in Dred Scott v. Sandford, 1852–1857. Member of the St. Louis bar. Died in St. Louis.
