Rolfe, Samuel Jones

Biography

26 Aug. 1794–July 1867. Carpenter. Born at Concord, Merrimack Co., New Hampshire. Son of Benjamin Rolfe and Mary (Molly) Swett. Moved to Maine, 1810. Married Elizabeth Hathaway, 4 Mar. 1818. Lived at Rumford, Oxford Co., Maine, when baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1835. Moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, by Mar. 1835. Lived in Caldwell Co., Missouri, 1837. Following expulsion from Missouri, located at Clayton, Adams Co., Illinois. Moved to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, by 1841. President of Nauvoo priests quorum, 1841. Ordained a high priest, 12 Nov. 1845, in Nauvoo. Bishop at Winter Quarters, unorganized U.S. territory (later in Omaha, Douglas Co., Nebraska), 1846–1847. Arrived in Salt Lake Valley, Sept. 1847. Settled at San Bernardino, Los Angeles Co., California, 1851. Elected county treasurer. Served as counselor in stake presidency in Los Angeles Co. Returned to Utah Territory, before 1867. Died at Lehi, Utah Co., Utah Territory.
