Laid out by John Dutch, May 1837. Location of Dutch’s tavern, known as “halfway house” due to location halfway between Beardstown, Cass Co., and Springfield, Sangamon Co. JS and others stayed at Dutch’s home en route to and from JS’s hearing in Springfield, 29 Dec. 1842 and 7 Jan. 1843. Town vacated, by 1843.
