Summary
A gold coin valued at ten dollars in United States currency, named for the impression of an eagle on the reverse. Coins were first minted in the 1790s and ceased production in 1933. Smaller denominations known as half eagle and quarter eagle coins were minted at the same time. The half eagle was valued at five dollars and the quarter eagle at $2.50.
