Justice of the peace of the aforesaid do certify that was by me affirmed to testify the whole truth of his knowledge. touching the matter in controversy in the cause aforesaid; and that his Deposition was reduced to writing and subscribed by him in my presence on the 17th day of May A D 1842 between the hours of eight oclock in the forenoon and six oclock in the afternoon in the County of and State of Illinois

of lawful age being sworn and examined on the part of the Plaintiff deposeth and saith that on the 16th day of October last he <having> understood that was going to to purchase and bring up groceries and that it would be a good opportunity to send for such Articles as he wanted concluded that he would send for some sugar and other articles and that for that purpose he gave him twenty five Dollars seven and a half of which was for the to verify his statement he produced a receipt which he said he took from said at the time he gave him the money, the following is a copy of the receipt alluded to—

the receipt itself is hereunto attached
