At the 5 July 1842 Nauvoo City Council meeting, a resolution was passed that Allred be granted an order for fifteen dollars towards his labor, after which this order was written. The transaction was recorded in the Nauvoo City Treasury Ledger on 5 August 1842. It is possible this could be partial payment for a claim Allred presented at the 15 January 1842 council meeting. (Resolution, 5 July 1842; Nauvoo City Council Rough Minute Book, Jan.–Nov. 1842, 6, 33; Nauvoo City Treasury Ledger, 2, 64; Claim from James Allred, 14 Jan. 1842.)
