Tippets, Alvah Lewis
Biography
12 Mar. 1809–24 Oct. 1847. Born in Lewis, Essex Co., New York. Son of Joseph Tippets and Abigail Lewis. Methodist. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1832. Presided over Lewis branch of church. Married first Abigail Tippets, Sept. 1834. Moved to Caldwell Co., Missouri, 1836. Member of high council at Far West, Caldwell Co., 1837. Served mission with James Carrole to Iowa Territory, 1840. Moved to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, by 1842. Wife died, 1842. Married second Caroline Beard, 19 Sept. 1843, in Clinton Co., Indiana. Moved to Warsaw, Hancock Co., by June 1844. Ordained a high priest, by 1844. Died in Winter Quarters, unorganized U.S. territory (later in Omaha, Douglas Co., Nebraska).
