Burgess, Horace
Biography
23 Jan. 1816–17 June 1849. Born in Putnam, Washington Co., New York. Son of William Burgess and Violate Stockwell. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Orson Pratt, 1832, at Lake George, Warren Co., New York. Moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, 1833. Labored on Kirtland House of the Lord, 1835. Ordained an elder, 7 Mar. 1835. Married Almira Pulsipher, 6 Mar. 1836, in Kirtland. Charter member of Kirtland Safety Society. Moved to Missouri, fall 1837. Ordained a seventy, before 1839. Lived in Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois. Donated goods for construction and labored on Nauvoo temple. Moved to what became Pottawattamie Co., Iowa, by 1848. Appointed bishop of Farmersville Branch in Pottawattamie, 1848. Died of cholera in Council Bluffs.
