Biography

20 Oct. 1820–24 Mar. 1884. Printer, publisher, editor. Born in Madison Co., New York. Moved with family to Seneca Co., New York. Apprenticed in Wayne Sentinel office and assisted in printing first edition of Book of Mormon, Sept. 1829–Mar. 1830, in Palmyra, Wayne Co., New York. Published Western Argus, 1841–1842, in Lyons, Wayne Co. Resided in Sodus, Wayne Co., 1843. Married first Margaretta Williams, 25 Dec. 1843, in Sodus. Resided in Lyons, 1850. Published Lyons Gazette, Sept. 1852–June 1856. Purchased Wayne Democratic Press from Pomeroy Tucker, June 1856, and combined with Gazette to publish under newly purchased paper’s name. Married second Mary S., by 1860. Member of Wayne County Agricultural Society. Appointed president of Lyons Union School, ca. 1877. Editor of Wayne Democratic Press at time of his death. Died in Lyons.
