The proposed that we use a little sophistry and cunning in regard to the matter. He would recommend that we send a letter to the and say to him, if he will carry us through this court safe, we will secure to him the next election for Governor for himself or his friends. As to all leaving to attend court, that will be the time for the mob to come in and commit depredations. He would also recommend that we send for to come here and stay through the court to lend us his assistance and influence.
Er moved that we send a messenger to each of these men with the letters.
