Catlin, Joel
Biography
24 Feb. 1796–28 Sept. 1879. Watchmaker, farmer, railroad agent, financial agent. Born in Harwinton, Litchfield Co., Connecticut. Son of Isaac Catlin. Moved to Augusta, Richmond Co., Georgia, 1818. Married Calista Hawley, 31 Aug. 1820, in Farmington, Hartford Co., Connecticut, and returned to Augusta. Moved to Jacksonville, Morgan Co., Illinois, May 1832. Cofounded Augusta, Hancock Co., Illinois. Maintained dual residences in Augusta and Jacksonville until permanently settling in Augusta, 1835. Appointed assignee for Hancock Co. for Illinois Bankruptcy proceedings, 1842. Returned to Jacksonville, 1845. Died in Jacksonville.
