Saturday January 1, 1842. I commnced placing goods on the shelves of my new assisted by. Bishop & others, and in the evening attended City Council,— 512 saints were reported at the Glasgow conferce of this date,
<4> Tuesday 4 I wrote Dr of on businss
sec, <candidate for Gov of > made an inflammatoy speech <agaist th[e] Saints> at Edwa[r]dsville, a mass of falsehood.
<5> Wednesday 5. I dictated a business letter to , , Pa,— signed over & delivred the Town Plat of , to me as Sole Trustee in trust for the Chuch of J C. L. D. S.— My new was open for business this day for the first time, was filled with custoners, & I <was almost> continually behind the counter, as clerk, waiting on my fri[e]nds,
<6> Thursday. The New Year (LL, 57) things
<12> Wednesday 12. The Ship Tremont Sailed from for with <the> Saints, about this time. The following notice From this was published in The T&S, “Tithi[n]gs & Concortins [Consecrations], (667) .” I rode South about 7 miles to my woodland, acompand by Brothes John Landers & and fou[n]d a vein of cole about 18 inches thick apperetly [apparently] of a superior quality for the western Country.

<15> <Saterdy 15.> I commenced reading (LL 58) Edetien.
