(Some of the Joseph Smith–era sources behind the current
Latter-day Saint edition of the Doctrine and Covenants, clockwise starting from
the largest volume: The Evening and the Morning Star, 1835
edition of the Doctrine and Covenants, 1844 edition of the Doctrine and Covenants,
Evening and Morning Star reprint, Book of
Commandments)
The following table lists early
versions of the revelations and other texts found in the current (2013) Latter-day
Saint edition of the Doctrine and Covenants. For this same list in chronological
order, see Chronology of Texts in the Doctrine and Covenants. To compare other
versions of the revelations, see Corresponding Section Numbers in Editions of the Doctrine and
Covenants.
Dates given in the table were usually determined based on information
found in the texts themselves and in other historical documents. In several cases,
dates are approximate. For more information on the dating of the texts listed here,
see the historical introductions that appear before the texts. The final six texts
listed in this table, other than Section 137, did not originate with Joseph Smith,
but with later church leaders. See also Chronology of Texts in the Doctrine and
Covenants.
