on motion of the Defendants’ counsel the Witnesses on the part of the People are required to be seperated during the examination— with the exception of the 10 <12> foregoing named persons—

at 1/4 before 10 A.M. the Examination of the Witnesses commenced—
1. Jonas Hobart— says he lived in — did on the day that Joseph Smith was killed— It was on the 27 June 1844— I was present at the Jail when the transaction took place— did not see him killed— Saw him after he was killed— at the time I suppose he was killed— I was in front of the Jail on the South Side— heard the guns— It was on the East side of the jail where he fell out <<of the window> saw him after he was shot>— he was Shot in the right breast— in the abdomen & left shoulder— <Shot> a little below the right pap— he was entirely dead when I first Saw him— thinks the shot in the breast <would have> killed [p. 2]
