on the road in a North Westerly direction— the Road is in a south westerly direction— It is north of West from here to — and South of West <to> — they were going West— the Rail Road Shanties are in a direct line from to would suppose a little south of West— Dont recollect seeing any one on horseback— Some men came upon on horseback immediately after the mob retreated <from >— thinks came up about fifteen minutes after the mob retreated— thinks the event took place about 5 or 6 O’clocks, Saw in town that evening after the event took place— did not see [William] Grover here, or either of the others— but saw & in that evening— Is acquainted with 1/3 of the People of this — but did not recognize any of them that came there— there was very great confusion— it is <very> likely that I was alarmed—
