While they were killed— Staid at home the next night— while at Scott’s had no other conversation about these murders except the one— I commenced <the conversation> myself— never had a vision in which Joseph Smith appeared to me, and handed me a cup of water— I dreamed so,— but it was only a dream— I have resided in until within six or eight weeks past— knowis <am> acquainted with Thomas [L.] English of — was over <with him hunting> in the bottom over the river opposite hunting— had a conversation at that time <with him> about this matter— I told Mr. English I could get $500— for attending this trial— did not tell him that I was to get $500— I told him $500 had been offered me— <but> not by the Mormons— there was a man <named> Southwick <at who> told me <that> I was a fool for filing my affidavit <at > that if he was me he could make money out of it— that he would now <yet> give me $450. for what the chance— he told me he would give me $500 to clear out— <a man by the name of> Converse who kept the tavern in told me if he was in my place he would clear out, as the mobocrats would kill me if I Staid— I told him I could get $500 for attending this trial— I know George Seabaugh [Seabold]— and George McClain [McLean]— never <never> told them that I was to get $500 for swearing in this case— [p. 33]
