that the others would have done it either— Mrs. Garoute and Ashbel Genon were there— Cannot give any other reason why my attention was directed to Grover & — Cant tell which arm Voras was wounded in— heard Grover say he was wounded— he lamented his arm a great deal from the pain— there was no physician or any one there to dress his arm— he went out of the kitchen into the bar room— and that was the last I Saw of him— did not See the wounded man eat any supper— he was wounded up by the Shoulder— did Mrs. Fleming asked him where he was wounded and Mr. Grover as made answer that he was wounded up by the

Shoulder— Mr. Grover said he was shot in the arm— but did not say by whom— I am certain Mr. Grover breakfasted there that morning— Saw and Mr. Grover the night before the Smiths were killed— they both staid at Mr. Flemings that night— The troops were encamped there— Mr. Grover commanded one of the companies— he eat supper that night at Mr. Flemings— but cant Say whether he stayed there all night— he generaly took his meals there— Cant say whether he eat his meals in Camp or not— Cant say whether Grover & stood guard that night or not— part went to bed, and part Stood guard, but cant say, who stood guard or who went to bed— most of them who staid there that night, suppose a half of them were talking about killing the Smiths— Grover is the only one I can remember out of the half of about 60— who said he killed old Jo— did not see any arms about these men— none at all— one said I killed old Jo— Another said no you did not— I [p. 55]
