[2 words illegible]n made a speach to [illegible]s not recollect all he said I do [3 words illegible]t of Il— he said Jo Smith was [illegible] in custody the mormons would [illegible]et all the County officers and that he would be freed within himself he said nothing about killing Smith or what should be done with him had before that time beat for volunteers to come to I do not know what they were going to for— I do not know who commanded— made commenced making a speach selling forth the greavences of the people as we held them I will tell all I know about it said that the mormans had the power of the &c and say <​said​> that what was done must be done quickly & that the said so— commenced making the speach started home and I saw him some distance from them did not hear him give his reasons for going home did not hear say a word he was on horseback his horse was wither black or white but do not know what its colour was. this was on the 27th June 1844 about 12 o clock— it was at the rail rode shanties— South West— in —
