whom I knew except the persons which went up with me I saw & on that day & a very short time before the firing commenced— I saw a short time before that time— they were on the N W Corner of P S— I heard neither of them say anything about the firing I did not see go to the Jail— it was a short time after the firing commenced before the C G [Carthage Greys]— got to the Jail— I am not Capt of the Co I do not recollect whether I saw a person on the court house before the the firing commenced— there was firing after Smith fel after he fell out of Winder— I have heard none of the Def[endan]ts speak of it it I saw no person that I know— I did go to the Camp that night
Were the guns of the gards at the Jail loaded with blank Ca[r]tridges he declined answering the same on account of <its> Crimanating [Incriminating] himself
On the Smith was killed I was both in & in this in on that morning it was understood that the tro[o]ps were to March to by the order of I saw . G [William Grover]. .— I cannot say that I saw that day in [p. [6]]
